Stanley Donen (dah-nən); (born April 13, 1924) is an American film director and choreographer whose most celebrated works are Singin' in the Rain andOn the Town, both of which he co-directed withGene Kelly. His other noteworthy films includeRoyal Wedding, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,Funny Face, Indiscreet, Damn Yankees!, Charadeand Two for the Road. He received an Honorary Academy Award in 1998 for his body of work and aCareer Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festivalin 2004.

Here are a few items i thought would work well in certain shots:

Here is a dress that i thought might work well in the bookshop scene, contrasting the fashion in the 1950's. We are looking for a prom style dress to emphasise the difference in fashion today and to highlight that she's wearing a beautiful dress in a book shop where she works.

Here is another dress i thought might work well under her trench coat, highlighting her change in clothing throughout the film, yet kept slightly hidden under the main feature of the trench coat. The bright colour maybe too much, and could be edited on photoshop to create a darker shade of maroon.

The style of this dress fits in well with the iconic style of 1950's dresses, which are worn in Funny Face. The way the shape of the dress floats out, resembles the style Audrey Hepburn wears. This dress could work well in the scene outside with the big lamp posts in the background with the other model representing Fred Astaire.

Potential Clothes

I don't really have anything that would work well really, but I did find these.

This might work for shot with the trousers, but this was literally the only thing I could find that would go with trousers!

I'm not sure which shot this would look best in, perhaps the cafe shot. Again, clothes wise I don't have anything.

These loafers could look really cute on the balloon/bike picture or the predominantly male picture.

Again, these would also be okay for the shots I mentioned above!

Garments We Could Use

I have picked out a few items from my wardrobe that we maybe could use in our photo shoots or give us an idea of what style we are looking for.

The bookshop photo:

This dress I fort would go nice with the style of shoot we where thinking for the bookshop, it is the pretty prom like dress we wanted but yet still in a dark colour.

The Cafe photo:

For this image we decided a brightly coloured dress would look nice and stand out in the Cafe. I really like the colour of this dress but if only it stuck out at the waist to create a more 1950's style.

The outdoor water photo:

These are the style of pants we where thinking of using for this image, I think they will go nice with little dolly shoes to show off Audrey's casual side. I think paired with this peter pan collar top would complete the outfit.

For this image we decided to focus on the trench coat. I like the style of this one but think it should be longer in length. This can just give us idea of what where looking for.

Update on Locations

•  The Bookshop said they would definitley do it. It doesn't open until 10.30 so we'd have to go then, but they're fine with us photographing in there. There is a bit more room near the back of the shop, but we'd really only be able to get Dave, the model and maybe one or two of us in there. 
• The cafe was also fine with us shooting in there, but they'd prefer it to be at the end of the day more towards 3.30/4ish. If we want to do it in the day when we have Dave we've got to let them know and they'll corner off an area for us. They only have the one bar area and that is the coffee counter they use all the time which can't be closed at all, so we can't use that. We also can't go anywhere that would involve us asking customers to move, nor can we get customers or staff in the shots. Because we can't have the bar shot, we could go back to having the male and female model sitting on opposite tables so we can use the cafe as a location?

 Astaire's perculiar look and big ears meant he wasn't classed as the most handsome of men so he relied on his style which soon became his trade mark especially his top hat. His attention to detail with impeccably tailored blazers and slacks that were finished off with a perfectly tied cravat and fedora was essential during the 1940s. He was part of an age when men actually dressed like men.

 Singing in the rain's Gene Kelly had a very similar style to Astaire often wearing a hat tilted to one side and two piece suit with either tie or bow tie

First meeting- 17th November

We all met up as a group at half 12 today in the library to discuss our thoughts on the film and to share any ideas we had. We decided to focus our images mainly on the Locations within the film i.e. Bookshop and Cafe with a hint of the Story board to reflect key scenes in the film and sticking to the 1950's style.
Image one- We have chosen to set image one in a Bookshop in Preston Town, the clothing style is still open for discussion but we plan to use a Prom Dress provided by Ashleigh. We want to avoid replicating the shots so plan on putting our on twist in the image but still using the Audrey Hepburn styled model and sticking to the dull coloured clothing that she starts off with in the film.
Image two- This will have a hint of the Balloon scene within it however with extras causally holding a balloon as 'Audrey' walks along the river walking a dog wearing & fitted pants as oppose to a dress
Image 3- This will reflect the Cafe location that Audrey often finds herself in throughout the film however in contrast she will be wearing a brightly coloured dress. 'Fred Astair' will also feature in this shot sat a few tables away from 'Audrey' throwing her a slight glance to reflect the romance forming between the 2
Image 4- Based around the foundation of the film which is Astair Photographing Audrey. We intend to take the shot from over 'Audreys' shoulder focusing on 'Astair' photographing her.
Image 5- The final image Audrey will be wearing a white dress to reflect the wedding dress she wears at the end of the film and Astair in a cream or brown suit both either walking away from the camera alongside a row of lamposts or swinging around the lamposts.
The Shoot with Dave takes place on the 29th November
